Mike Hughes
Mike Hughes, known as The Chi Kid across social media, is a Chicago sports content creator, media personality, and contributor whose love of sports is rooted in the city that raised him. Born and raised in Jefferson Park on Chicago’s Northwest Side, Mike grew up on Cubs baseball, Bears football, and the athletes who became part of the fabric of Chicago sports.
Sports were also part of life at home. Mike was raised by an Irish mother and Italian father, and through his father’s work, he grew up around Chicago athletes including Otis Wilson, and Dan Hampton. Whether playing baseball and football himself or rushing home to watch Derrick Rose during his MVP season, there was rarely a time when sports weren’t part of his life.
After losing his father at 15, sports remained a constant for Mike. Following high school, he created The Chi Kid across social media, turning his lifelong connection to Chicago sports into a growing media career. His work has included opportunities with iHeartRadio, FOX Sports, and the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, along with building an audience of more than 200,000 followers across social media.
At the center of Mike’s work is Chicago. Through his content and sports coverage, he wants to bring Chicagoans together and show what it really means to be from the city, from the teams and athletes people love to the experiences that shape the people who call it home.
