The Las Vegas Aces are adding another layer to an already loaded roster—this time by bringing back one of the league’s most dynamic scoring guards.
Chennedy Carter is back in the WNBA, signing a training camp deal with the Las Vegas Aces after a season overseas in 2025. The addition gives Las Vegas another high-upside guard as it fine-tunes a roster built to contend.
Originally selected No. 4 overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream, Carter made an immediate impact early in her career, earning All-Rookie Team honors and establishing herself as a guard capable of generating offense at all three levels. She later had stops with Los Angeles and had her best season with the Chicago Sky, where she continued to show her impeccable scoring ability.
A Backcourt Built on Depth—and Options
The Aces didn’t necessarily need another guard—but they clearly wanted one.
With Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray, and Jewell Loyd anchoring the backcourt, adding Carter—and pairing her again with Dana Evans—gives Las Vegas real depth across multiple guard profiles.
Carter brings something different to that group: downhill pressure, instant offense, and the ability to create her own shot without needing much setup. That kind of scoring punch matters, especially in second-unit minutes or when the offense needs a spark.
Timing Matters
This move also aligns with what Las Vegas has already done this offseason.
The Aces addressed their frontcourt by re-signing NaLyssa Smith and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, while also bringing in Brianna Turner in free agency and adding Tennessee’s Janiah Barker through the draft. With that foundation in place, adding Carter feels intentional—more about rounding out the roster than reacting to a need.
The Real Question: Roster Spots
Carter’s deal being a training camp contract means nothing is guaranteed, and that’s where things get interesting. Las Vegas still has decisions to make with its development spots. Do they invest in younger guards that they have brought in in the past like like Deja Kelly, or prioritize additional veteran depth behind their core? There’s also a scenario where Barker factors into that mix depending on how quickly the team wants to bring her along.
The Final Cut
For Las Vegas, this is a classic contender move.
There’s little risk tied to a training camp deal, but the upside is clear. If Carter finds consistency and fits within the system, she could quietly become one of the more impactful depth additions in the league.
Either way, the Aces are sending a message—they’re not standing still, and they’re not looking to mirror the rest of the league. Bringing in Chennedy Carter keeps them in position to compete at the highest level while reinforcing that she belongs back in the WNBA.
